FLORESVILLE, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Vice President Mike Pence said at a prayer vigil in Wilson County, Texas Wednesday night that he is inspired by the resolve of a small Texas community faced with overcoming tragedy following Sunday’s church massacre. In response, the people of Sutherland Springs were grateful for Pence’s visit.
The Vice President visited with shooting victims, families of the dead, and law enforcement before addressing a crowd of hundreds in a local high school football stadium.
“President Trump wanted us to come to Texas tonight to tell all of you that we are with you. The American people are with you,” the Vice President said.
Pence was joined by the Second Lady, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Senator Ted Cruz, and local religious leaders. Cindy Cover lives in Wilson County and said the Vice President’s visit meant a great deal to the community.
“I believe that it’s a gift from God that he came here to Sutherland Springs and that he’s very personable and godly like us,” said Cover. “It’s a very close knit community and I’m just very grateful that he came. And Governor Abbott as well. He was at the vigil Sunday.”
A town still grieving, and victims still physically recovering. But for a short time Wednesday night, while their Vice President spoke of perseverance and heroism, a sense of hope came over South Texas.
