TCU Beefs Up Shuttle Security After Campus Incident

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – In reaction to Tuesday’s bizarre armed road rage incident at TCU involving two shuttle bus drivers, campus officials have decided to place armed and/or unarmed guards on shuttles for the next few weeks.

Police say the incident unfolded after the two employees of Roadrunner Shuttle service – a contractor with TCU – got into an argument, and one of the drivers opened fire on the other. No one was hurt by gunfire, but Fort Worth police say the second driver suffered minor injuries after the suspect “bumped” him with a shuttle bus as he fled. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.

54-year old Eric Hampton (left) has been charged with aggravated assault and for bringing a gun on campus.

Although a new Texas law permits concealed handguns on college campuses, TCU had opted out. School officials say they were not aware that any Roadrunner drivers carried weapons, but all of the shuttle drivers passed background checks, according to Adrian Andrews, TCU’s Vice Chancellor for Public Safety.

“We look into a persons history, not their future. We’re not going to ever be able to determine that.”

The incident prompted a campus lock down for hour Tuesday morning.
