TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Stunning stats that show Texas has racked up over 62-hundred days in-a-row of fatal car crashes over 17 years, since November 7, 2000.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSB), 94 percent of these deadly crashes are due to driver error — things like distracted driving, speeding and drunk driving.
In reaction, TxDOT has rolled out a social media campaign called #EndTheStreakTX, reminding drivers to take more responsibility behind the wheel. They’re asking drivers to display the #EndTheStreak logo as their social media profile picture.
Officials at the agenda also are asking drivers to change their social media profile pictures to an #EndTheStreakTX image available for download.
TxDOT Executive Director James Bass called the situation “heartbreaking” in and email.
“It’s heartbreaking to know somebody has lost a spouse, child, friend or neighbor every day for the past 17 years on Texas roadways. We can stop this deadly streak if every driver makes it a priority to be safe, focused and responsible.”
