Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – An admitted criminal who was originally from Cuba has been sentenced in Dallas for ID theft and credit card fraud. Roberto Saavedra has been in jail since he was arrested a year and a half ago. He pleaded guilty in June to stealing ID’s online then using that information to create counterfeit credit cards. He used those phony cards to buy prepaid legitimate store credit cards, then ran up a large volume of fraudulent purchases, especially at north Texas Walmarts. Walmart tipped off the banks. The banks called in the Secret Service, and Saavedra was tracked down in Plano. He has now been sentenced to five years in federal prison.
