DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Organizers of the Dallas Holiday Parade have extended their deadline by 48 hours to come up with enough money to go forward with the annual event.
Initially, the parade was on the brink of cancellation if organizers failed to raise more than $300,000 by the end of business day on Monday.
Long-time sponsor Children’s Health backed out earlier this year and the parade hadn’t found enough corporate sponsorship to afford the cost.
The parade’s executive producer, Jeffrey Giles, said there has been interest from several businesses to sponsor this year’s parade.
“I have tremendous confidence that this will pull through and I can’t imagine that this would be canceled. I simply can’t,” he said.
The group received $50,000 from the Statler Hotel and $10,000 from Downtown Dallas Inc. on Monday.
Giles said the said if they didn’t pay insurance on the parade by Tuesday morning, the cost would be even higher.
“It’s almost 15 grand in insurance which could hike as much as 50 thousand if it’s not done within their time frame,” he said.
The parade has been a Dallas holiday staple for 30 years.
