FBI Offers Investigates Texas Border Patrol Agent’s Death as “Potential Assault”, Offer $25,000 Reward

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) –  – The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the death of a Border Patrol agent.

The announcement comes one day after Governor Greg Abbott authorized a $20,000 reward on Monday.

Agent Rogelio Martinez died Sunday after suffering fatal injuries to his head and body. His partner, who has not been identified, remains in the hospital in serious condition.

According to the Associated Press, investigators are describing the incident, which happened in the West Texas city of Van Horn, as a “potential assault” but said they wouldn’t rule out that the agents were injured in some other way.

Authorities believe Martinez may have fallen into a culvert and said Martinez’s partner actually radioed for help after the incident but has no memory of what occurred.
