NEW ORLEANS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Schools throughout Texas and Louisiana that were impacted by Hurricane Harvey are now able to apply for a $2,000 art kit paid for by the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts.
The Foundation and the Rodrigue family recently re-released George Rodrigue’s post-Katrina silkscreen print “We Will Rise Again” to benefit the schools that were ravaged by the storm.
The kits are tailored to the needs of elementary, middle school or high school classrooms.
The late George Rodrigue was a passionate arts advocate who raise raised millions of dollars for humanitarian and arts organizations following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The Blue Dog print of We Will Rise Again sold for $500 each and raised $700,000 for to help displaced Louisiana families. A lot of the money was raised by Texans.
The special re-release includes the reference “Hurricane Harvey 2017” which is written along the white border alongside the words “We Will Rise Again” and Rodrigue’s official stamped signature.
The family said they are proud of the response the print received after Hurricane Katrina and are thankful they are able to give back to the community.
“Dad would be proud to have taken part in this effort to help schools affected by Hurricane Harvey. These same communities in Houston and elsewhere in Texas helped us get back on our feet after Katrina and it is our turn to do the same,” said Jacque Rodrigue, Executive Director of GRFA.
Schools who wish to participate can apply online here.
Prints are available for purchase through December 31, 2017 through the GRFA’s website.
