ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – State Representative Chris Turner teamed up with Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County Wednesday to deliver Thanksgiving meals to home-bound, elderly and disabled residents in Arlington.
People were given a choice between a traditional turkey or glazed-ham meal. Both entrees are served with cornbread dressing, green beans, mashed sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and beverage of choice. The personal visit provided by volunteers, like Rep. Turner, was aimed to combat senior isolation and loneliness as well as provide a daily safety check for our most vulnerable citizens, especially during the holiday season.
“These individuals don’t necessarily have to have minimal income and there is no age requirement,” Iris Bruton with Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County. “But they’re definitely somebody who can not prepare a nutritious meal for themselves.”
Meals On Wheels provides nutritious, home-delivered meals to citizens so that they can remain living independently in their own homes. Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County can feed one person for an entire year for just $1,690, roughly the cost of ten days in a nursing home or one day in a hospital.
