(WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Department of Public Safety and law enforcement agencies across the state are mourning the loss of one of their own following a Thanksgiving Day shooting on I-45 in Freestone County.
According to DPS, 41-year-old Damon Allen was a 16-year veteran of the force, and leaves behind a wife and three children. The suspect in the trooper’s death was captured after a brief standoff with authorities in Waller County, hours after the shooting. 32-year-old Dabrett Black of Lindale, Texas, was spotted, and shots were fired between him and authorities. A SWAT team swarmed the wooded area nearby, and Black was reportedly captured by a K-9 unit in a nearby field. Black is charged with Capital Murder.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott released a statement calling for swift justice for Allen’s killer. Law enforcement agencies have taken to social media since the shooting paying tribute to Trooper Allen.
