Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – A monument to honor service members from all branches of the service, serving in the Global War on Terror will unveiled in Austin on Sunday. The dedication of “The Price of Liberty” is to thank, honor and recognize the fallen and all veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice after September 11th. The statue was sculpted by Sandra Van Zandt and shows a service member and family parting ways for an overseas deployment. The “Liberty” figure depicted on the monument was modeled after “The Goddess of Liberty” atop the Texas Capitol, reflecting Texas history, patriotism and pride. Back in 2015, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill clearing the way to construct the monument on Capitol grounds.
