CPS Commissioner Saddened by Agency’s Handling of Sherin Mathews Case

Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The CPS commissioner is expressing extreme sadness and disappointment over the agency’s handling of the Sherin Mathews case. The 3-year old was found dead in a culvert two weeks after her parents reported her missing.

Commissioner Hank Whitman tells WFAA-TV that he thinks the initial report that the toddler was sent outside in the dark because she didn’t drink her milk, was “just not believable.”

Whitman promises to get to the bottom of why Sherin wasn’t removed from the home upon reports that she had previously been taken to the hospital for broken bones.

“That is something I cannot answer. I can tell you that it breaks my heart. I’m a cop. I mean, to have a child go outside because they didn’t want to drink their milk or whatever, I mean that story was just not believable. I don’t know. I don’t know what was going through her father’s mind. It’s astounding to me why someone would do that to a baby.”

The adoptive parents are jailed for their role in events leading to her death in October.
