(WBAP/KLIF) – Funeral services for a Texas State Trooper who was shot and killed on Thanksgiving Day were held Friday in Mexia, Texas.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Troopers from across Texas, and Officers from other agencies nationwide were on hand for Trooper Damon Allen’s funeral. One of Allen’s high school classmate’s spoke at the service.
“Damon always had a smile on his face,” the woman said. “He was a genuine guy.”
Hundreds of law enforcement Officers lined the football field at Mexia High School in uniform paying tribute to the Trooper. His family sat in chairs in front of his casket draped in the Texas flag.
Trooper Allen stopped Dabrett Black Thanksgiving afternoon on Interstate 45 in Freestone County for a traffic violation. On his way back to his patrol car, he was shot by Black with a rifle. Black sped from the scene and was caught two hours later near Houston. He is charged with Capital Murder.
