DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) — Country music superstar George Strait has been named Texan of the Year by the Texas Legislative Conference, a nonpartisan organization of business and political leaders.
Strait will be honored March 22 at the New Braunfels Civic Center for his work raising money and awareness for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Conference chair Doug Miller issued a statement saying, “(George Strait) put his well-earned reputation on the line and asked not only his fellow Texans to step up, but all Americans. And they have.”
Strait, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, has sold more records than any other country artist in history, ranking third behind Elvis and the Beatles in total record sales. He has also recorded the most number one songs and top five songs in the history of music of any kind, and is the only artist in the history of music to have a top ten hit every year for 30 years.
