DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Southwest Airlines is the latest company to award part-time and full-time employees with bonuses after Congress passed the GOP-backed tax reform bill in December.
Southwest Chris Mainz said employees were pleasantly surprised to learn that they would receive a $1,000 bonus later this month.
“When the news was announced, you could kind of hear a little gasp. Everybody was excited to share the news and talk about what they’re going to do with the money,” he said.
Mainz said that the company plans on spending more money in other areas as well.
“We’ve also earmarked $5 million for charitable contributions throughout 2018,” he said.
The company also plans to order an additional 40 airplanes from Boeing.
Last month, AT&T announced that it was handing out $1,000 bonuses to most of its U.S. workforce.
On the same day of the announcement, the company broke the news that it was cutting 300 jobs in Dallas.
