Local Child Advocate Calling for Caylee’s Law Legislation in Texas, Cites Sherin Mathews Case

RICHARDSON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – As new developments emerge in the tragic case of a Richardson toddler whose body was found in a culvert in October, local child advocates are calling for legislative changes.

3-year-old Sherin Mathews’ body was found less than a mile from her home a few weeks after her adoptive parents, Wesley and Sini Mathews, reported her missing.

During that time, Wesley Mathews gave several different statements to police about what happened the night Sherin disappeared.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office autopsy report indicates she died due to “homicidal violence”.

Sherin’s disappearance and subsequent death sparked an outpouring of love and support from the local and global community.

One of the early tributes to Sherin came by way of a Facebook page called “Love and Justice for Sherin.”

A child abuse advocate known as “Shan” created the page shorlty after Sherin was reported missing.

She said she’ll continue to work to keep Sherin’s memory on the community’s mind.

“We’re not going away. Whatever it is. It’s good that her story is being kept alive and her story is out there,” said Shan.

She said she plans on lobbying for a Caylee’s Law type of legislation in Texas which calls for felony charges to be applied for not reporting a child’s death within an hour.

Wesley and Sini Mathews are currently in jail on child-abuse related charges.
