(WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn of Texas believes fixing problems with immigration will have to be a step by step process.
Cornyn wants to see a resolution involving DACA recipients but also other matters as well.
“It’s a practical matter now because of time and the reality that we’ve been so unsuccessful, spectacularly unsuccessful, in passing comprehensive immigration reform, we’re going to have to do it in parts,” Cornyn said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters.
President Donald Trump said Wednesday during a joint news conference with the leader of Norway any DACA legislation must include funding for a border wall.
Senator Cornyn, the second most powerful senate republican, isn’t concerned about any voter backlash as President Trump works with Congress on possible immigration reform.
The Texas republican says working with those under the DACA program is popular.
“I had a conference call with a number of Hispanic leaders and we talked about this issue,” Cornyn said. “They reiterated the point that Hispanics and immigrants care about security too.”
