(WBAP/KLIF) – North Texans honored Dr. Luther King Jr. with events and parades Monday.
The 33rd Annual Greater Fort Worth MLK March Parade & Rally was filled with high school bands from across the metroplex. Hundreds of people lined the streets surrounding Sundance Square to pay tribute to the civil rights leader.
“It’s important to honor a day like this,” said James Shaw, who attended the parade with his children. “So we remember where we came from and where we are going so we can never forget our past and better our future. Especially for the next generation.”
Other parades were held in Grand Prairie, Dallas, and Waxahachie. The City of Arlington wrapped up a weekend of events with a breakfast, and The NAACP Irving-Carrollton chapter hosted a free spaghetti luncheon in honor of the civil rights icon. Citizens of Mesquite gathered for a community event at the Mesquite Arts Center.
