DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) — The 2017 Uniform Crime Report shows some good news for the city of Dallas.
The report, also called the UCR, is a log of all violent and non-violent crimes sent to the FBI each year. They use the data to track any patterns and to help clear up cold cases.
Last year, the overall per-capita crime rate decreased 3.6% from the year before. It’s the lowest it’s been since 1964.
In addition, the total number of crimes reported dipped too, to 53,001 for 2017.
It wasn’t all good news, though, Even though the number of homicides and robberies reported in Dallas went down, the number of violent crimes went up.
Murder, sexual assault, robbery and aggravated assault are considered violent crimes according to the UCR.
