Houston (WBAP/KLIF) – A civil rights lawsuit filed by inmates at a southeast Texas prison has been settled out of court. The lawsuit claimed the non-air conditioned prison was endangering inmates’ health during the summer. The tentative settlement reached Friday calls for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to guarantee temporary air conditioning at the Wallace Pack Unit this year, and permanent air conditioning thereafter. That prison houses 1400 inmates. The settlement has to be approved by the presiding judge before it can take effect, and the hearing to do that is scheduled for next month.
