DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas ISD has taken a big step forward months before it launches its own transportation service.
The school district district will buy the building currently being operated by Dallas County Schools, which currently provide bus service for students in Dallas County.
Voters decided to do away with DCS in November after it received a number of complaints.
The DCS dissolution committee approved the sale of the building off I-30 in Dallas for $6 million.
Scott Layne is the Deputy Superintendent of Operations at DISD and said many of the same drivers could be hired by the district.
“They have to apply and they have to go through a background check, driving check and also a drug and alcohol test,” he said.
Layne said the building was attractive to the DISD because of the training space.
“They have a number of training rooms. They also have a large room that would allow you to bring a pretty significant number of bus drivers in for meetings,” he said.
DCS closes in July. Lanye said DISD staff will move in immediately after DCS closes.
