Dallas Mayor Calls for Action to Prevent Future Tragedies

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings is calling for action on a nationwide scale to prevent future tragedies like the school shooting in Florida on Wednesday.

Rawlings says he has sent letters to President Donald Trump as well as the Texas delegation representing Dallas calling for a National Blue-Ribbon Commission on Mass Shootings.

“This sense of just looking like deer in the headlights on this issue is not acceptable,” Rawlings said.

Rawlings admits he is not hopeful that his letters will result in the action he wants.

“Our leadership seems to be more interested in getting re-elected than actually stepping up and doing something,” Rawlings said.

17 people were killed Wednesday at a high school in Parkland, Florida near Fort Lauderdale.

Rawlings wants social scientists, law enforcement and educators to get together and determine the root cause in an effort to stop it from happening again.
