DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is reporting a statewide decrease in cases of child abuse and neglect.
The 2017 fiscal year numbers reveal more than 170 children died in Texas from neglect or abuse. That is a 23 percent decrease from the year before. The Austin American-Statesman reports, the annual number of deaths in the last eight years, have fluctuated between 151 and 227.
As a result of child deaths, high employee turnover, and not seeing potentially abused children in a timely manner, Texas Child Protective Services, pursued major reforms in recent years.
