PLANO, TX (WBAP/KLIF News) – The North Texas Municipal Water District says an independent study shows the water in Plano is safe, despite widespread complaints about a strong chlorine smell.

The study shows the amount of disinfectant by-products is well below the maximum number set by the EPA. The water district also says they conducted more tests than usual, given how much attention has been put on their water safety.
They say the chlorine people have been smelling is a product of taking ammonia out of the maintenance test — again, something they say is normal and approved by the EPA.
Jamie Smith Stevens is with the group Safer Water of North Texas and told the city council at a meeting Wednesday night that “water is the foundation of our health” and they want to “dig deeper”.
The issue has caught the attention of environmental activist Erin Brockovich, who’ll be coming to Plano next month with her own water expert.
