Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Fort Worth police have released body cam footage of an arrests over the weekend that sparked a small protest at city hall last night.
Initial video taken by a bystander showed officers pinning Forrest Curry to the ground and punching him several times in the body, to to activist Rod Smith to tell WFAA-TV:
“It pissed me off instantly because on those videos you saw an African American man pinned down, getting attack by Fort Worth Police Department.”
But body cam footage show Curry resisting arrest when officers arrive.
Police say the punches seen on video are “distractionary strikes,” which are taught at the police academy, to be used when a suspect doesn’t comply in putting their hands behind their back.
Also seen in the body cam footage, firefighters telling police they thought the suspect might be on K-2 and that he tried to hit them. Curry’s attorney says he had a seizure.
The department is still investigating excessiveuse of force allegations.
