Insurance Claims Follow North Texas Hail Storm

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texans began reporting vehicles with windshields that have been knocked out and homes whose skylights and windows have been broken, Wednesday morning after baseball size hail pounded parts of Carrollton and Coppell. Smaller hailstones were reported in Arlington and Irving.

The National Weather Service Office in Fort Worth said the storm developed rapidly over Denton and northwest Collin County before splitting into two separate storms. It was the storm that moved westward over Denton and across the Dallas/Tarrant County line that produced large hail and strong wind gusts.

“Home and vehicle owners are urged to take pictures and video of their damaged property and notify their insurance carriers as soon as possible,” said Mark Hanna, a spokesperson for the Insurance Council of Texas. Hanna recommended making note of all communication, dates, phone calls, visits, receipts, repairs and paper work with your insurer and building contractor. He also suggested avoiding outside solicitors and working with with local building contractors for all repairs when possible. Hanna said he anticipates many hail damage claims to be reported as the week continues.
