Dallas City Council Approves Scooters, Bike Share Regulations

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – More dockless vehicles are headed to Dallas but not without regulation.

The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to require bike share companies to get a permit before putting bikes out in the city. The council also voted to launch a six month pilot program for scooters. City Councilman Phillip Kingston said it’s hard to know what regulations are needed until the scooters are rolled out.

“If we can’t operate them then there is no ability to put together a public safety campaign,” Kingston said.

Bike share companies are are required to pick up stray bikes within two hours during the week and within 12 hours at other times.

More regulations can be put in place after the pilot program ends.
