A Fight Over City Council Term Limits in Arlington Leads to a Temporary Restraining Order

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The fight over City Council term limits continues in Arlington. According to Zack Maxwell Publisher of The Arlington Voice, a Tarrant County judge issued a temporary restraining order on Wednesday that may keep a secondary proposition off the November ballot.

After a City Council vote Tuesday night to add a secondary proposition to the November ballot, Maxwell said he filed a lawsuit, against the City of Arlington and the mayor. “The city did not adequately notify the public about the secondary propositions and that they were basically just abusing their authority and their ability to do this, just to get a one up over the citizens of Arlington. Fortunately after about a four or five hours in court this morning, a judge actually came out in our favor by granting us a temporary restraining order.

According to Maxwell, the restraining order requires the city to remove the propositions “that they basically tacked on at the last minute to the ballot, and the city only has until August 20th to put something onto the November ballot.”

Maxwell helped to collect 11 thousand signatures in favor of the term limits on the November ballot. He is pushing for a term limit of six years.
