Parking Meters Popping Up in Fort Worth’s Popular West 7th District

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Patrons of Fort Worth’s popular West Seventh entertainment district who plan on having a good time this weekend will have to pay to park.

They’ll notice more parking meters across the area and the fees take effect on Thursday.

The city said the goal of the charges is to relieve congestion and help traffic move easier in the area.

Parking Meter Manager Peter Elliott told WFAA TV the situation got so bad, it forced the city’s hand.

“The issue is such a big problem that we’re at the point that we want to do something and we’ve seen that this has worked in other cities.” he said.

These are the new charges:

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,$1 per hour.

From 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., $2.50 per hour.

From 10 p.m. to 10 a.m., it’s free.

Some business owners are against the meters because they fear they will run off customers.

These prices are not ironclad…if the demand for spots is too high, the city can raise the fees 25 cents a week. That could bring costs up to as high as $4.50 an hour.

Elliot said the same is true in the other direction. He said if the city sees demand going down they can decrease the prices.
