Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Despite widely reported long wait times at DPS offices for drivers license renewals in Texas, and a proposal from the state’s Sunset Advisory Commission that they be taken away from the Department of Public Safety, DPS director Steve McCraw insists his agency can do the job best — if the legislature provides it with more money and more employees. McCraw says no other agency knows drivers licenses as well as DPS, and it’s dedicated to improving the process, but if they don’t get the resources the situation is not going to improve. In the meantime DPS says it will do whatever the Texas Legislature decides it will do.
