PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Plano doctor who came under fire for comments on the issue of gender pay disparities has apologized for saying female physicians “don’t work as hard” as males.
In the Dallas Medical Journal, Dr. Gary Tigges, founder of Plano Internal Medicine Associates, said that female doctors see less patients and may have “other priorities.”
On his office’s website, Tigges apologized “to all female physicians for my comments and the pain they have caused.”
He wrote in part:
“I now understand more clearly how intricate this issue is and that there are ways we can work together to resolve these disparities,” he wrote.
The comments sparked immediate backlash on social media.
@texashealth this comment by one of your staff members Dr Gary Tigges is offensive to all working women. RT if you agree @TMLT_TMIC should withdraw all advertising $ from DMJ #genderbias #genderdiscrimination @PROWDWomen @womenirads @drnikkistamp https://t.co/XWfw7YeFyG
