Frisco Receives Grant to Hire More Firefighters

FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF) – The Frisco Fire Department has been awarded a grant that will allow it to hire more firefighters.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency. This $1,560,305 SAFER grant will provide partial funding for 9 firefighters that will staff Fire Station 9. The purpose of the grant is to enhance the department’s ability to comply with staffing, response, and operational standards that are established by the National Fire Protection Agency.

“We are excited about receiving this grant and the opportunity that it brings to the City and its citizens by placing these additional firefighters on duty,” Fire Chief Mark Piland said. “It also provides a mechanism to save the city tax dollars.”

The grant was awarded through a competitive process.
