Toyota, SMU, Dallas ISD Announce Collaboration Surrounding Education

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Toyota announced Friday that it will donate $2 million to a collaborative effort to bring a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) school to West Dallas.

SMU will establish the curriculum and provide tutors and guidance from professors for the new school.

“Unfortunately some of our top students in West Dallas leave the area to go to our other magnet schools but now they can stay here,” Dallas ISD Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa said.

The school is expected to be open by 2021 and will occupy the current Pinkston High School building after students move to the new Pinkston building.

“This is really important because there are a lot of STEM jobs out there now a days,” High School sophomore, Jared Durham said.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings praised Toyota, SMU, and DISD for working together to accomplish something unique for the students of West Dallas.
