Bedford (WBAP/KLIF) – The Bedford City Council is almost certain to do something this week that it hasn’t done in decades. It will raise taxes. Most everyone involved with Bedford’s government agrees the city is cash strapped. It doesn’t have the money to pay for the parks and rec. bonds approved by voters last year. It hasn’t added a new firefighter to the city payrolls since 1998, or a new police officer since 2001. There’s no question among them that a tax rate increase will be approved at Tuesday’s city council meeting, the only question is how much? The proposal is 18%, but insiders say it could be more.
