PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Plano is inviting residents to its inaugural “Family First Event” this weekend, which is designed to provide necessary resources to those who are struggling to make ends meet.
Plano Mayor Harry Larosiliere said the event centers around three areas: Health, Education and Employment.
“We going to have all of our hospitals there providing free flue shots, nutritional information, we’re going to have free vision screenings and eye wear done on the spot for our kids,” he said.
Over 60 non-profit agencies will provide the services and there will be 500 job opportunities for parents looking for work. The first 100 kids to show up will get free school supplies.
Larosiliere said it’s important to make sure families who may fall through the cracks have what they need to stay afloat and the city wants to live up to the “Plano Promise.”
“Our city will protect you, provide you with the best in public safety and amenities, our schools will educate you but our community will nurture you. So, we have families that are living in the shadows. They’re working but they’re working poor,” he said.
The event is being held at the Plano Event Center on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
