North Dallas Murder Prompts Questions about Police Response Time

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The murder of a Dallas woman near the Galleria mall is raising questions about police response time.
Dallas police Officer Nick Novello told WBAP’s Rick Roberts Show that it took officers close to 90 minutes to arrive at Maria Ezquerro’s apartment after a 9-1-1 call from one of her co-workers reporting suspicious activity.

“The last entry on the call sheet is at 10:49 pm,” said Novello. “DPD still hadn’t dispatched this call.”

Novello places the blame on a police shortage. Police Chief Renee Hall has said she is assessing staffing within the department.

“What do you think is happening to child sex trafficking, prostitution, gambling, gang activity, white collar crime in Dallas,” Novello asked. “I submit to you that we don’t have a handle on any of that.”

WBAP/KLIF has reached out to Dallas Police for comment.

The suspect in Ezquerro’s killing is linked to recent sexual assaults in North Dallas.
