GARLAND – WBAP/KLIF – The Garland Police Department has announced extra police patrols looking for drivers who are intoxicated will begin Friday, December 21rst, and run through Saturday, January 5th of next year. Funding for the extra patrols comes from TX-DOT. Police ask drivers who suspect another driver of being intoxicated to call 9-1-1 for help, so an officer may arrive to investigate.
Texas had the highest number of alcohol-related fatalities in 2014, 2015, and 2016. In Texas, someone is hurt or killed in a vehicular crash involving alcohol. The Lone Star State law defines being intoxicated as having a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher. But regardless of the number, a person is considered intoxicated and driving under the influence if he or she is impaired in any way. A woman or adolescent consuming just one or two drinks in one hour could lead to the legally defined level of intoxication. A typical drinker might consume two or three drinks in an hour to reach that level of legal “intoxication”.
