Former Congressman Eyes Republican Party of Texas Chairmanship

Garland, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – In a YouTube video Wednesday, former Florida congressman Allen West announced his intentions to run for chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.

West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who now lives in Garland with his family, says his overall goal is to defeat the “scourge called progressive socialism in Texas.”

“To recruit, train and resource,  to equip and deploy constitutional conservatives … those candidates to win at the local, state and national level in the State of Texas.”

West also talked about the “progressive principles” that focus of quality of outcomes instead of quality of opportunity that look to make more people victims that victors.”

The announcement puts west in line to challenge current chairman, Austin insurance executive James Dickey at the party’s convention next year in Houston.

In the over 13-minute video West talks about the history of the Republican Party of Texas, and likens his endeavor as one aimed at saving the soul of Texas.
