DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- 68-year-old Rick Sorrells, former Dallas County Schools Superintendent was sentenced to seven years in federal prison Wednesday morning.
Sorrells pleaded guilty to a charge of federal wire fraud in the corruption investigation in Dallas County School Bus Agency.
Sorrells took $3 million in bribes from CEO of Force Multiplier Solutions Robert Leonard. The company makes stop-arm cameras for school buses and Sorrells directed Dallas County schools to buy thousands of the cameras, many of which were never installed.
The scandal nearly bankrupted the taxpayer-supported school bus agency which was eventually shut down by the Texas Legislature and Dallas County voters in 2017.
Sorrells was also sentenced to pay $125 million in restitution. He was ordered to report to Federal Prison September 17th.
