Clear the Shelters Places 85,000 Pets Saturday

(WFAA)

DALLAS – The NBC Network’s annual “Clear the Shelters” national event was held Saturday, with most shelters and pounds offering every pet under their roof at zero cost.  The event this year found homes for 85,000 pets; mostly dogs and cats.  67 North Texas shelters took part, with the Humane Society of North Texas alone finding permanent homes for 301 animals.  Spokeswoman Cassie Lackey says 156 dogs, 128 cats. 6 rabbits, 2 rats, 1 mouse and 1 chicken found permanent homes from their available and adoptable pets.

The NBC and Telemundo Networks join every year to promote the event and relief overcrowding. Since 2015, the one day event has placed more than 250,000 animals.
