One Dead, Two Injured Following a Shooting Near an Arlington High School

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Arlington police say one teen is dead and two others are injured following a shooting near James Bowie High School on 2000 Cliffside Drive.

Lieutenant Chris Cook said the other teen was shot in the leg and is expected to be okay and the other man was a bystander who was struck by a stray bullet that entered his home. Cook said he is OK.

“At some point there was a physical altercation that occurred between 10-12 teenagers, there were shots that were fired that’s when those two teens were shot,” Cook said. He said they hopped back into a car that appeared to be an SUV before police arrived on scene.

“We are checking neighborhood cameras and we are confident with that many people involved someone will come forward and determine the shoot or shooters so we can figure out what happened,” Cook said.

This is an ongoing investigation. If you have any information contact Arlington Police.

Arlington ISD released a statement regarding the shooting:

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that one of our students at Bowie High School was fatally shot off campus after school today. A second Bowie High School student was also shot and is receiving medical care. Out of respect for the families involved and the minor status of the students, the Arlington ISD will not be releasing any student names this evening. The Arlington Police Department is fully investigating the shootings. Any speculation on the part of Arlington ISD officials regarding the incident would not be appropriate.

For tonight, the Arlington ISD has canceled the Bowie High School freshman and junior varsity football games against Trimble Tech. School counselors are preparing to assist students through this tragedy and district officials will support the families of the students involved as needed.

The Arlington ISD asks that the entire community keep the families of these students in your thoughts.
