Employee at Collin County Camp Fired, Arrested on Child Sex Charge

James Barth: Palo Pinto County

COLLIN COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF) – A North Texas camp said this week that one of its employees is now fired after being charged with a child sex crime that allegedly took place at the camp in 2018.

According to a letter sent by the YMCA to parents, James Barth was arrested earlier this month after authorities in Palo Pinto County were told about the alleged 2018 abuse at YMCA Camp Grady Spruce by the alleged victim’s parents.

YMCA Dallas, CEO, Curt Hazelbaker said Tuesday that the camp was notified by Police.

“When we were made aware we started working with [Police] closely on the investigation,” said Hazelbaker. “The staff member was terminated immediately.”

Hazelbaker said the camp doesn’t tolerate violations of its child protection policy and has opened an internal investigation.

“We are saddened by the allegation,” said Hazelbaker. “We’re praying for all the families and parties involved. We are committed to standing with the family and supporting them anyway we can.”
