Denton (WBAP/KLIF) A Denton police officer is in critical but stable condition after being shot just after midnight during a traffic stop. The shooting happened in the parking lot of a Taco Bell along University Drive after the officer stopped the driver of the vehicle because of an equipment violation.
A press conference just wrapped up. Denton PD released information regarding one of their officers who was shot just after midnight. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 1800 blk of University. There was an exchange of gunfire and the officer was hit. 2 suspects detained. pic.twitter.com/DHOD6cPLYI

According to Denton Police, two people were taken into custody by Carrollton and Farmers Branch police after a short chase. The name of the officer is not being released.
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation with the assistance of the Major Crimes Unit of the Denton Police Department.
Meantime a stream of fellow police officers been showing up at Medical City/Denton where the officer was in surgery overnight.
Denton Police Chief Bobby Smith talked to the media around 3:45 this morning.
