Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – A Carrollton woman continues her efforts to honor Sherin Mathews, the 2-year old year Richardson girl who was killed by her father in 2017.

In the name of a Facebook page created in Sherin’s honor two years ago, founder Shanna Poteet has launched a ‘Sherin’s Toy Drive‘ for some impoverished kids in Fort Worth’s Stop Six Neighborhood, specifically two 3rd grade classes at Sagamore Hill Elementary School.

Poteet says it was rated as the “worse neighborhood to live in Fort Worth.”

“It’s riddled with gangs, crime and prostitution. All of the kids who this school are considered high risk for gang violence”

Poteet says she reached out to a 3rd grade teacher who happens to be a good friend at Sagamore Hill, and told her that she’d like to sponsor one of her students this Christmas.  The conversation then grew into a toy drive in Sherin’s honor for both 3rd grade classes.

Poteet also reached out to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department who readily accepted the invitation to help pass out gives, and they’ll also provide teddy bears for the kids during their holiday party on December 19.

She been posting pictures to Facebook of gifts that have been coming in from around the country.

If you’d like to donate, visit Love and Justice for Sherin Mathews on Facebook for details.  The deadline for donations is December 16.
