Shemwell on Recall Effort: ‘Good ol’ boys’ At Work

McKinney (WBAP/KLIF) McKinney City Councilman La’Shadion Shemwell has publicly commented on a recall effort against him.

Shemell sees the effort as a form of ‘voter suppression,’ telling the Dallas Morning News quote:

“This is white supremacy in the form of good ol’ boys: ‘do what we do, or else.”

Recall Shemwell‘ volunteer Jolie Williams says the community response has been consistent.

“There’s been an outpouring of support from the community. Everything that we’ve been hearing has been the exact same; that he’s violated the trust; that he’s made derogatory statements, not only about City Staff but about residents, and all of the incidents that have led up to this.”

Williams says Councilman Shemwell has been involved in many questionable incidents during his time in office, but his recent call for a ‘Black State of Emergency’ in which he said, ‘Texas law enforcement have ‘declare war on black and brown people‘ was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many.

The group needs 2000 signatures by January 4th to get the issue on the May ballot.
