(WBAP/KLIF) — The blood shortage in North Texas has medical professionals alarmed. The lack of blood on the shelves at carter blood care is alarming. Carter Blood Care has been hit hard by the shortage. Their normal supply of 11-hundred bags of “O” positive blood is down to just 26.
According to Carter’s Linda Goelzer, 700 patients need transfusions each day, but the blood supply can only accommodate 300.
Goelzer says her office is telling hospitals to order only what they absolutely need.
The choice to give the “gift of life” seems to follow generational lines. Goelzer says Millennials aren’t as apt to give blood, as are Baby Boomers and WWII era residents.
