DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Southwest Airlines is the latest airline to push back the return of its Boeing 737 MAX planes. The planes were grounded last year after two deadly crashes overseas.
Southwest has more of the Max aircraft than any other US airlines and said Thursday it is extending the removal of MAX flights from its daily schedules through June 6. The previous date was April 14. According to the airline, 330 weekday flights will be taken out of the schedule.
“By proactively removing the MAX from scheduled service, we can reduce last-minute flight cancellations and unexpected disruptions to our Customers’ travel plans,” the airline said in a statement. “The limited number of Customers who have already booked their travel and will be affected by our amended schedule will be notified of their re-accommodated travel according to our flexible accommodation procedures.”
American and United airlines also recently canceled MAX flights through early June.
