Suspect in Shooting at Texas A&M Commerce Charged with Another Murder in Denton

DENTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Police say the murders at Texas A&M Commerce and another murder in Denton have a connection.

While investigating and searching the home of the Texas A&M shooting suspect, 21-year-old Jacques Smith’s home, Denton Police were able to charge him and two others for the murder of Steven Daniels on New Years Eve in Denton. The other two suspects are being identified as Jalin Hargrove and Earnest Rogers.

Smith is accused of murdering 19-year-old Deja Matts and 20-year-old Abbaney Matts of Garland in the university’s dorm hall . A toddler was also hurt in the shooting but officials say he has been released from the hospital and is the care of family.

Smith is the ex boyfriend of Abbaney Matts. Police say he was previously arrested on January 27th for assaulting her with a frying pan and lamp.

Smith was transported to the Hunt County Jail for the double capital murder at Texas A&M Commerce with a third count of capital murder added for the murder in Denton.
