DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas County jury says former Dallas Police Officer Christopher Hess is not guilty in the shooting death of Genevive Dawes in 2017.

This comes on the third day of deliberations after the jury wanted to go home early Wednesday.

Judge Brandon Birmingham read the verdict shortly before 12:30pm Thursday.

The prosecution argued Hess had no reason to fire his gun but Hess’ attorneys maintained he feared for his life.

Dawes was in what was a reported stolen vehicle and the vehicle backed up at the time Hess fired.

The jury was shown body cam footage of Hess firing 12 shots into the car.
