Penalty Phase Begins Today for Man Convicted Capital Murder in Richardson Police Officer’s Death

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The penalty phase of trial for the man convicted of capital murder in the killing of a Richardson police officer began Monday morning.

A Collin County jury found Brandon Mccall guilty last Wednesday, in the shooting death of veteran Officer David Sherrard February 7th, 2018.

The county will try McCall for the murder of his then roommate Rene Gamez II.

Prosecutors said Mccall first shot Gamez inside their apartment then shot Sherrard who had responded to the shots fired call.

Officers on the scene described it as an ambush and said McCall also fired several shots in their direction.

McCall faces either the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Sherrard was a 14-year veteran of the Richardson Police Department and left behind a wife and two children.
