Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Right now it’s ‘hurry up and wait’ after a COVID -19 patient in Tarrant County was given an experimental treatment on Sunday and Monday — a plasma infusion from a patient who previously recovered from the illness.

Dr. John Burk of Harris Methodist Hospital tells WFAA-TV that the patient was on a ventilator in critical condition.

“Patients in need who might be on a ventilator or are about to be on a ventilator might be the best candidates to get a little boost in immunity.

It’s the first procedure of its kind for coronavirus in North Texas and it’ll be a few days before they know if the treatment worked.

Dr. Burk got approval for the “unproven experimental treatment” in 4 days.

Similar procedures were used for SARS and Ebola with low risks.
